Leopard geckos are small, inexpensive, and need a simple setup, making them ideal for tight budgets and small spaces. Bearded dragons are bigger, more interactive, and famously friendly, but they need a larger tank with strong UVB lighting. Both are allergy-friendly and can live 10+ years, so they're a real commitment.
The setup is the hard part — the pet is the easy part. Most beginner-reptile problems come from the wrong temperature, missing UVB light, or an enclosure that's too small.
