🦎 The Best Bearded Dragon Tank Setup
Bearded dragons are friendly and hardy, but they need a big, hot, bright desert setup. An adult needs at least a 40-gallon breeder tank, and a 4 x 2 x 2 foot enclosure is much better. A front-opening enclosure makes daily care easier.
Heat and light are non-negotiable. Provide a basking spot of 95 to 110°F at one end and a cooler 75 to 85°F end, plus a strong linear T5 HO UVB bulb running most of the tank length — without UVB, beardies develop crippling metabolic bone disease. Put the basking bulb on a thermostat and check temps with a thermometer.
Use a solid floor like tile, slate, or reptile carpet for young dragons rather than loose sand, which can cause gut blockages if swallowed. Add a hide and a shallow water dish. New to reptiles? Read our best beginner reptiles guide.

🧽 Cleaning & maintenance
Spot-clean daily: remove droppings, shed skin, and uneaten feeder insects as soon as you see them, and refresh the water dish. Wipe the glass and disinfect the food and water bowls weekly. Every month or two do a deeper clean — replace or sift the substrate and scrub the enclosure and décor with a reptile-safe disinfectant (such as diluted chlorhexidine or an F10 solution), rinsing and drying fully before the bearded dragon goes back in. Avoid household disinfectants and strong fumes, which can be toxic to reptiles, and always wash your hands after cleaning to prevent germs like salmonella.
